Public Transportation in Warsaw

Public transportation in Warsaw is well-organized, with a wide variety of options to help you navigate the city. Warsaw has a zone-based system, with tickets valid for travel within the city’s boundaries and to surrounding areas.

Tickets and Zones

In Warsaw, public transport is divided into two zones:

  • Zone 1 (City Zone): Covers the entire city of Warsaw.
  • Zone 2 (Agglomeration Zone): Covers areas outside the city, including surrounding towns and suburban areas.

Most tourist attractions and hotels are located within Zone 1, so a single ticket for this zone should suffice for most visitors. However, if you’re planning to visit destinations outside the city, such as Wilanów Palace or Warsaw Chopin Airport, you’ll need a ticket valid for both Zone 1 and Zone 2.

You can easily use the Jakdojade mobile app and website to help you navigate public transportation.

Types of Tickets

There are several ticket options available depending on your needs:

  • Single-fare tickets: For a single journey, valid for a specific period.
  • Time-limited tickets: Valid for 20, 40, 60 minutes, or even 24, 48, 72 hours, and 7 days. These are perfect if you plan to use public transport more frequently.

Important: Make sure to validate your ticket when you use it for the first time. After that, you can keep it in your wallet and reuse it until the time expires. Once the ticket’s validity period ends, you’ll need to purchase a new one.

Where to Buy Tickets

Tickets can be purchased at:

  • Ticket machines located at major bus and tram stops
  • Inside buses and trams (most of which have ticket machines that offer multiple language options)
  • Mobile apps, such as Jakdojade, SkyCash, or MoBILET, which allow you to purchase and validate tickets directly from your phone.

Most ticket machines accept both cash and card payments.

Prices

The most economical option for frequent public transport users is to buy a monthly pass. To decide which option works best for you, consider how often you plan to use public transport.

You can also use mobile apps such as JakdojadeSkyCash, or MoBILET to buy tickets and validate them on the go. These apps are not just for public transport—they also offer other services, such as payments for parking or city bike rentals.
